Cole's Crusade 2012

July 2nd, 2012

Cole is an amazing little boy. His Mother had emailed me, asking me for support with the Telus Walk for Cure because Cole has Type 1 Diabetes - we were more than happy to help. For more information on the event and how you can help, please visit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation's website. Below is an email update from Cole's Mother, Lisa, with updates on the events.

See Cole's full story at The YouTube page of Dr. Tang

"Words cannot express how grateful we are for your support in our fundraising efforts for this year’s TELUS Walk to Cure Juvenile Diabetes. It is because of your support, that Cole’s Crusade successfully raised $10,335 to help JDRF cure, better treat, and prevent Type 1 (Juvenile) Diabetes! Remarkable!!! The funds raised at the TELUS Walks across the country help JDRF accelerate ground breaking research that will transform the lives of every person living with Type 1 Diabetes.

Here are a few of JDRF's Research Milestones that were made possible due to the generosity and ongoing support of people like yourselves. Certainly come a long way….from zero chance of survival to the JDRF Artificial Pancreas Project and JDRF Canadian Clinical Trial Network. Let’s hope a cure is in sight! Both of the TELUS Walks in the lower mainland were a great success, thanks to the hundreds of amazing volunteers who made it happen and the incredible response from donors. Look at what we accomplished together!......

Vancouver (Stanley Park) TELUS Walk raised $678,000
Fraser Valley TELUS Walk raised $225,000! ...and still counting!

Thank you again for the important role you played in supporting our efforts and Cole’s Crusade! We are SO GRATEFUL for the amazing support everyone has shown us.

We feel truly, truly blessed.

Guard your mouth this Summer

June 27th, 2012

A lot of our patients play sports, and now is a great time to remind all of you to take care of your mouth while participating in summer sports – especially contact sports such as soccer, football, baseball and basketball.

One of the most important pieces of sports equipment you can wear on the field this summer is a mouth guard. A well-fitted mouth guard allows you to breathe and speak more clearly, in addition to protecting your mouth. Only by using a mouth guard can athletes avoid serious mouth and jaw injuries. The next time you’re in for an appointment, we encourage you to let us know if you’re playing or planning to play any sports. We can recommend a mouth guard that will work best for you. Also, here are five quick tips for keeping yourself safe during sport activities this summer:

• Wear a helmet
• Stretch before and after a game or practice
• Wear protective eyewear
• Wear a face shield to avoid scratched or bruised skin
• Be observant, even as a spectator

We hope this helps! You can always contact us if you have any questions! Good luck on the field!
